Odisha: Floodwater Discharge Crosses 9.1 Lakh Cusec At Mundali In Cuttack
Bhubaneswar: Amid possibility of medium scale flood in the areas under Mahanadi river system in Odisha, the discharge from Mundali barrage has remained constant since 4 pm on Thursday.
According to the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), the water level of Mahanadi was 94.20 ft in upstream and 91.80 ft in downstream at 5 pm. The discharge at Mundali barrage at the time was 9,18,383 cusec.
Though the outflow at Mundali has been increasing since morning, it has remained constant since 4 pm. While 8.28 lakh cusec water was flowing through barrage in the morning, it went up to 9.10 cusec at 3 pm and 9.18 cusec at 4 pm, the SRC said.
If flood water outflow crosses 9.5 lakh cusec through Mundali, officials apprehended a medium-level flood in Angul, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts.
“The floodwater is expected to reach Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Puri tomorrow. Collectors of the three districts are on alert,” Water Resources EIC Bhakta Ranjan Mohanty said.
The collectors of Angul, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts have been asked to take precautionary measures and guard weak embankments.
Meanwhile, the water level of Baitarani river is receding while Brahmani at Jenapur has remained constant at 22.20 metre against 23 metre at 4 pm.
In Boudh, over 20 villages under Sankulei panchayat have been marooned due to heavy rains with at least 5-ft rainwater flowing in Jagannath Sadak.
