Bhubaneswar: In a fresh move to address the growing traffic challenges in the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack region, the Odisha government has constituted a high-level committee to identify congestion-prone locations and recommend short-term measures to improve traffic flow and pedestrian movement.
The committee has been formed following the decisions taken at a High-Level Committee meeting held on May 5 under the chairmanship of the Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary. The initiative aims to enhance road layout efficiency and improve overall traffic performance in the Twin City region.
According to an order issued by the Works Department, the committee will assess critical traffic bottlenecks, examine existing road infrastructure, and vet immediate interventions required to streamline vehicular movement and ensure safer conditions for pedestrians.
The panel comprises the Chief Construction Engineer, Central (R&B) Circle, Bhubaneswar; the Additional Commissioner of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC); the Engineer Member of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA); the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar; and the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Bhubaneswar.
The committee is expected to work in coordination with key stakeholders, including the district administrations of Khurda and Cuttack, urban local bodies, development authorities, Commissionerate Police, CRUT, and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited.
With rapid urbanisation and a steady rise in the number of vehicles on city roads, traffic congestion has emerged as a major concern in both Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The latest initiative is expected to pave the way for targeted interventions and improved traffic management in the state’s largest urban agglomeration.
