Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government, on Tuesday, assured to fulfill two out of the ten demands made by the agitating panchayat samiti members.
“The panchayati raj minister has assured us that our monthly remuneration which is now Rs 1,880 will be hiked. The minister has also clarified that we will be allowed to sit in the meetings of the panchayat samitis,” a member of Odisha Panchayat Members’ Association said.
On Monday, the police had resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the samiti members, who came in a huge procession from Master Canteen Square to Mahatma Gandhi Marg to gherao the assembly.
They were demanding increase in monthly remuneration from Rs 1,880 to Rs 30,000 for elected members, an insurance of up to Rs 10 lakh, among others.
At least 15 people were injured in the lathicharge.
