Balasore: The Nilagiri court in Balasore district witnessed a high-pitched drama with lawmaker and the implementer engaging in a verbal duel over an eviction drive.
Here we are talking about local MLA Sukant Kumar Nayak and Tehsildar Sushrita Tudu.
It did not end there. Accusing the Tehsildar of misbehaving with him, the MLA then sat on a dharna in front of Nilagiri sub-collector’s office. He was opposing the drive.
According to sources, Nayak reached the court when constructions allotted to clerks on its premises were being removed in presence of Tudu and Additional Tehsildar Rakesh Panda around 8 am this morning. The MLA tried to stall the drive, alleging that the constructions were being pulled down without any prior notice or provision of rehabilitation.
A war of words soon followed and the MLA accused the Tehsildar and Additional Tehsildar of using filthy language. Following which he sat on a dharna.
The MLA later said that he had a discussion with the Collector on the issue and it was decided that the eviction drive will be carried out only after the clerks are rehabilitated.
Meanwhile, police personnel were deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
Talking to the mediapersons later in the day, the tehsildar said she will take legal recourse against the MLA.
“It would have been better had the MLA talked to me personally. Instead, he used unparliamentary words against me in full public glare. Besides, one of his supporters also used the same language. I will move the court against the MLA for tarnishing my image,” she added.
After the talks with the MLA by the district administration remained inconclusive, the MLA and the Tehsildar later lodged police complaint at Nilagiri police station, Balasore SP, B Jugal Kishore told the media in the afternoon.
