Odisha Records 9.7% Average Surplus Rainfall Up To July 20

Bhubaneswar: The average rainfall of Odisha as recorded on July 20 for the last 24 hours is 12.2 mm.

The highest rainfall of 75.9 mm has been received in Malkangiri district followed by 30 mm in Gajapati, 27.7 mm in Deogarh, 27.5 mm in Kandhamal, 26.0 mm in Kendrapara, 24.3 mm in Jajpur, 19 mm in Boudh, 15.7 mm in Ganjam, 13.8 mm in Dhenkanal, 11.5 mm in Jagatsinghpur, 11.4 mm in Sundargarh and 10.1 mm in Sonepur district.

The average rainfall in the remaining districts remained below 10 mm except for Jharsuguda district where there has been no rainfall during the last 24 hours.

However, with four blocks of Kandhamal and Malkangiri districts recording more than 100 mm rainfall, the average rainfall in the state for the month of July (up to July 20) accounts for a surplus of 9.7% of the long-term average rainfall.

Similarly, the average rainfall of the state between June 1 and July 20 comes to 7.9% of the long-term average rainfall.

Going by districts, Malkangiri, Puri and Khurda districts have received surplus rainfall of more than 19% whereas 17 districts of Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, Kendrapara, Ganjam, Jajpur, Balasore, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Deogarh and Keonjhar have received normal rainfall (+19% to -19%) during the period June 1 to July 20.

The average deficit rainfall in the remaining 10 districts has remained between 19% and 39%.

In terms of Block-wise rainfall, 63 Blocks have received surplus rainfall of more than 19% between June 1 and July 20 whereas 129 more Blocks have received normal rainfall (+19% to -19%). The average deficit rainfall of 80 Blocks is between 19% and 39% while 38 Blocks have recorded severe deficit rainfall (—39% to —59%).

On the other hand, the average cumulative deficit rainfall during the above period in the remaining 4 Blocks of Kishorenagar (Angul), Loisinga (Balangir), Raighar (Nabarangpur) and Sinapali (Nuapada) is more than 59%.
