As many as 275 people have lost their lives and over 900 injured in the rarest of rare rail mishaps when the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express entered the loop line, rammed into a stationary goods train and got derailed, before the Yeshwanthpur-Howrah Superfast Express arrived from the opposite direction and crashed into some of the Coromandel bogies which had been thrown into those tracks.
