Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall is likely to lash most parts of Odisha in the next 72 hours under the influence of a low pressure formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, the regional meteorological centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
According to a Met bulletin issued in this regard, a low pressure lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood with associated cyclonic circulation up to 9.5 kilometre above mean sea level titling southwestwards with height. The system is expected to become a well-marked low pressure area during the next 24 hours.
The districts likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall are Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Rayagada, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Konjhar and Jajpur, the bulletin added.
The fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, many parts of coastal Odisha have received moderate to heavy rainfall in the last 12 hours.
