Odisha’s Simplipal ‘Burns’ In National Neglect, Laments Union Minister Pratap Sarangi

Bhubaneswar: After Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, his party colleague from Odisha Pratap Sarangi on Wednesday tweeted, expressing anguish over the fire in Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary and lack of coverage in the national media.

“Similipal is burning and it’s not a good sign for Asia. Mayurbhanj needs national and international’s media attention as its cause is genuine. Sad, not any leading national media is covering the story of Simlipal since fire breaks a week ago,” the BJP MP from Balasore posted while retweeting Mayurbhanj princess Akshita M Bhanj Deo’s March 1 message, where she had raised concerned about no national media covering the incident.

Tagging Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, Sarangi requested him to instruct the media channels to bring the news to the limelight.

He also urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to look into early signs of fire in the sanctuary.

Following a request from Dharmendra, the Environment Minister on Tuesday had directed officials for immediate action to control the fire raging in the Similipal, since a week.
