Mumbai: In a rerun of the deplorable Shankar Mishra case of 2022, an Indian passenger allegedly urinated on another traveller on a Delhi-Bangkok Air India flight on Wednesday.
Confirming the incident, Air India issued a statement saying that the crew followed all necessary procedures after the alleged offence took place.
“Air India confirms that an incident of unruly passenger behaviour was reported to the cabin crew operating flight AI-2336, from Delhi to Bangkok, on 9 April 2025. The crew followed all laid-down procedures, and the matter has been reported to the authorities,” the airline said in a statement.
The accused passenger was warned by the crew, while the victim — an employee of a prominent multinational company — was assisted in taking up the grievance with Bangkok authorities.
“In addition to warning the unruly passenger, our crew offered to assist an aggrieved passenger to take up a grievance with authorities in Bangkok, which was declined at the time. The standing Independent Committee will be convened to assess the incident and determine the action, if any, to be taken against the unruly passenger. Air India continues to follow the SOPs as laid out by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) in such matters,” Air India said.
The previous urination case, involving Shankar Mishra, was reported on November 26, 2022, and also happened on an Air India flight. The Mumbai resident, who worked as vice-president for Wells Fargo in India, had allegedly urinated on an elderly woman on a New York-Delhi flight.
Mishra was arrested, and his services terminated by his employers.
He was charged with sexual harassment and obscenity by the Delhi Police in January 2023. After being booked for the act, the airline barred him from flying for 30 days.
