New Delhi: A 60-year-old winning a Miss Universe beauty pageant?
You heard that right.
Argentina’s Alejandra Marisa Rodriguez made her way into the record books by being crowned Miss Universe for the province of Buenos Aires.
The 60-year-old from La Plata, the capital city of Buenos Aires province, became the first woman of her age cohort to clinch such a prestigious beauty accolade.
A multifaceted personality, Alejandra is also a seasoned lawyer and journalist who was rewarded for her determination and resilience to break barriers and redefine conventional standards of beauty and age.
Having impressed the jury and audience with her elegance, grace and infectious smile, Alejandra will now prepare to represent Buenos Aires in next month’s national selection for Miss Universe Argentina.
If she wins that, Alejandra will represent Argentina at the Miss Universe World contest on September 28 in Mexico.
“I am thrilled to be representing this new paradigm in beauty pageants because we are inaugurating a new stage in which women are not only physical beauty but another set of values,” she told mediapersons after her win.
It was in 2023 that the Miss Universe organisation announced it would no longer have age limits for pageant contestants. Hence, any woman over the age of 18 is eligible to compete from this year.
Till last year, women between 18 and 28 years of age could enter the pageant.
