OSSTA Appeals To Odisha Govt For Morning Classes Of Schools After Summer Vacation

Bhubaneswar: With IMD warning of heatwave for some more days, the Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) has appealed to the state government to allow morning classes when the schools will reopen after summer vacation on Monday.

General secretary of OSSTA Ranjan Kumar Dash, in a release on Saturday, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the monsoon is likely to reach Odisha late.

The nor’wester-induced thunderstorm and rain have not brought much relief in some parts of the day. Rather, it has led to rise in humidity causing more discomfort and raising possibility of sunstroke.

Besides, several schools are being run in buildings with asbestos roof without fans and power supply. In some cases, the existing fans are not working Dash said.

Under the circumstances, the school hour should be scheduled from 6.30 am to 9.30 am till the temperature comes down with advent of monsoon, the OSSTA secretary said.

It may be mentioned that the government in an order on Friday extended the summer vacation of schools by 2 days and postponed the reopening to June 21 instead of June 19.
