Malkangiri: Over 13,000 Odia migrants crossed the inter-state border at Motu in Malkangiri district on Saturday, raising a major challenge for the district administration to combat coronavirus.
Sources said the migrants underwent thermal screening and then sent to designated quarantine centres.
Meanwhile, police teams along with transport and heath staff are camping at the Motu border to keep a vigil on the waves of returnees.
Malkangiri Collector Manish Agarwal said, “On an average, 1300-1400 unregistered people are arriving every day from adjoining states, some by walking or cycling. After the necessary procedure, they are sent to their native block/district by buses. In line with the government guidelines, they are put in 28-day quarantine and then into seven more days of institutional quarantine or home isolation.”
