New Delhi: Pakistan faced embarrassment at the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) meet at Jakarta in Indonesia after three countries blocked its anti-India proposal.
The main opposition was from Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. It was backed by Bahrain and Egypt. This happened during the OIC’s Parliamentary Union meet.
Officials in India say this is a result of India’s diplomatic efforts to tell the world the real story behind Operation Sindoor. India has sent delegations to 32 countries across the world to expose Pakistan’s support to terrorism and its role in the Pahalgam terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 that left 26 persons, mostly tourists from across the country, dead and several others injured.
There are 57 Muslim countries in the OIC including Pakistan. Of these, many countries share cordial relations with India. Pakistan had hoped to get its proposal against India on the Kashmir issue passed unanimously, but that did not take place.
“The OIC’s refusal to support Pakistan’s proposal indicates a significant decline in its influence among Islamic nations, signaling that many of these countries are aligning with India,” an official said.
India’s multi-party delegation, led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda, held a meeting with Bahrain’s Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa on Sunday. Talking to reporters after the meeting, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who is part of the delegation, said that Bahrain is an old ally of India, and that the country will support India at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
