Ahmedabad: An intruder from Pakistan was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat on Friday night. According to officials, the man was asked to stop and turn back after he crossed the International Border (IB). The BSF troops on duty opened fire when he refused to do so.
Authorities have still not released any further details about the dead individual.
The BSF is on high-alert along all borders across the country after the Pahalgam terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, in which 26 persons were shot dead and several others injured.
Intelligence reports confirmed that the attack was masterminded in Pakistan. There were at least two Pakistani-origin terrorists among those involved directly in the attack, it came to be known.
In response, Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor, which involved high-precision strikes on nine terror facilities inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters at Muridke and the Jaish-e-Mohammed’s compound in Bahawalpur.
The strikes resulted in the deaths of at least 100 terrorists. After these strikes, both the Lashkar and the Jaish have vowed to hit back against India. Even during Operation Sindoor, a major infiltration bid was made by the terrorists in Samba, Jammu and Kashmir, under the cover of drones, missiles and artillery fire launched by the Pakistani defence forces. This was effectively foiled by the BSF.
“On Friday night, the man was spotted crossing the IB. He was challenged after he started approaching the border fence (150 yards inside Indian territory). He did not stop. There was no option but to open fire,” an official said.
