Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested Suryanarayan Jena in connection with the death of a 32-year-old former HR manager, B K Manisha, in Bhubaneswar.
Manisha was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her rented flat at Vishnu Vihar in Pahala area, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, on May 26. Both doors of her flat were locked from the inside, and police found no immediate suspicious circumstances or signs of a struggle during initial investigation. Her phone and laptop were seized for forensic analysis.
Manisha, a native of Bhadrak who had been staying in Bhubaneswar since 2014, had worked as an HR manager at a city hotel but resigned eight months earlier. She led a lavish lifestyle.
According to sources, she was in a relationship with Jena, a contractor, who often stayed at her residence. He told police he had left her house on Monday afternoon. When her phone went unanswered later that night, he returned, found the house locked from inside, and alerted police.
Some reports indicate that the duo met at a restaurant in Cuttack on November 26, 2024, and fell in love. Disputes arose after the couple married at Birupa Temple in Cuttack on January 28, 2025, against their families’ wishes. She also had been under stress since resigning from her job. The couple had an argument when Manisha returned home late on the night of May 24, which spilled on to the next day, after which Jena left the house.
Manisha later sent an apologetic message, saying she could not live without him. Jena, however, dismissed her plea, replying that she could die if she wanted to.
Jena was booked for abetment to suicide after he confessed to the interaction.
