Bishkek: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping were seen exchanging greetings and speaking briefly as they walked together after reaching the venue of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek on Tuesday.
The two leaders interacted after joining other heads of state for a group photograph. Following the photo session, Modi and Xi walked alongside each other towards the summit venue and shook hands during their brief exchange.
Their latest interaction comes after they met on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin in August 2025.
PM Modi had earlier arrived at the summit venue, where he was accorded a warm welcome, as reported by ap7am.com.
Modi Holds Key Bilateral Meetings
On Monday, the Prime Minister held separate bilateral meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
He also attended the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games in Bishkek and conveyed his best wishes to the members of the participating Indian contingent.
The Prime Minister reached Bishkek on Sunday after completing his engagements in Uzbekistan. Members of the Indian community welcomed him on his arrival, raising slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”.
The visit is part of Modi’s two-nation tour of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Before departing on Saturday, he said India had been an “active and constructive member” of the SCO since 2017.
Focus On Regional Cooperation
PM Modi said he looked forward to taking forward India’s vision for the region, based on “Security, Connectivity and Opportunity”. He also expressed his intention to work with other SCO members to build a region free from terrorism, separatism and extremism.
The SCO has 10 member states — Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It also has two observer states and 15 dialogue partners.
The organisation’s dialogue partners include Azerbaijan, Armenia, Egypt, Cambodia, Qatar, Kuwait, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
