Bhubaneswar: In a major success against organised crime, Dharmagarh police in Odisha’s Kalahanadi district busted an inter-state gang of robbers with the arrest of eight dacoits.
Besides arresting the robbers, the police recovered a a huge amount of cash to the tune of Rs 3.51 crores, along with firearms, ammunition, and vehicles used in the crime. The accused individuals were found to be residents of Ranchi district in Jharkhand, police said on Saturday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Tahir Ansari, Hussein Khan, Jaisam Khan, Samim Ansari, Basudev Gope, Pintu alias Alim and Anuj Kumar.
Sources said masked robbers stormed a liquor den on January 30 under Dharmagarh police limits, intimidating the staff and customers, and making off with a substantial amount of cash. After committing the robbery, they fled the scene in a vehicle with the registration number JH10AP4817. A case was registered in this connection at Dharmagarh police station.
Under the leadership of Kalahandi Superintendent of Police, a special team was formed to track down the robbers. The team conducted raids at various locations, ultimately leading to the arrest of all the accused individuals.
During the investigation, the police tracked the vehicle to Jharkhand, where it was eventually recovered. Initially, the local police arrested two accused.
The police later received an information that the other accused persons were proceding towards Jharkhand, leading to their arrest. All the accused involved in the robbery have now been apprehended by the police.
Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania commended Kalahandi SP and his team for their swift action and success in the case.
