Gurugram: The Haryana government on Sunday ordered schools to be closed in four districts — Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat and Jhajjar — till November 17 due to the frightening pollution levels in Delhi-NCR.
Government and private offices have been advised to adopt work from home with the aim of reducing vehicles on roads.
A complete ban on all types of construction and development activities has also been ordered in these four districts.
“No trash burning by Municipal bodies will be allowed and stubble burning will be prohibited. No manual sweeping of roads will be allowed,” the order stated.
The pollution level in these districts is almost as hazardous as in Delhi. On Saturday, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced suspension of physical classes in all schools and work from home for government employees for a week, starting Monday, November 15.
The Air Quality Index in Delhi and surrounding areas, including Gurugram, went up to a dangerous 471 on Friday, the worst of this season.
On Saturday, the AQI of Noida (587) and Gurugram (557) was worse than that of Delhi.
