Pucca houses for Salia Sahi slum dwellers soon: Venkaiah Naidu
Bhubaneswar: Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, who is in the state to attend ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikash’ sammelan, on Monday announced multi-storey buildings for slum dwellers of Salia Sahi in the city.
Inaugurating a function organised by Indian Oil Corporation Limited in the slum, the Union Minister highlighted various public welfare schemes including Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Jan Dhan Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, initiated by the Centre during the last three years.
Launching a scatting attack on the Congress for its alleged continuous attempt to defame Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said the grand old party believes in 3Ds (defame, disturb and disrupt), while the BJP is marching ahead with only one D that is development.
On this occasion, the Union minister distributed financial assistance among the beneficiaries under different welfare schemes. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP’s state president Basanta Panda were also present.
During the visit to the slum, the Union Ministers also had food at the house of Suchita Behera, a dalit woman.
The BJD ridiculed it as a publicity stunt by the saffron party. “Now Union Ministers coming down to Odisha are taking food at the poor man’s house and even sleeping inside their huts for publicity. Have they ever thought how to help the poor families,” BJD spokesperson Prashanta Nanda asked at a media conference here.
