Pune: Siya Goel and her lover Chetan Chaudhary, accused in the Ketan Agarwal murder case, have been sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
Siya and Chetan were produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) AM Vibhute on Friday after the expiry of their police custody.
The prosecution asked for a three-day extension of police custody, stating that data recovered from Siya and Chetan’s mobile phones contained chats in signs and coded language, hence custodial interrogation was necessary to decipher the conversations.
Siya and Chetan’s counsel opposed the plea, saying police had already got sufficient time to investigate the case and that further custodial interrogation was unwarranted.
After hearing both sides, JMFC Vibhute remanded the duo in judicial custody till July 16.
Siya (20) and Ketan (22) were to get married in November. But on June 18, Ketan was found dead at the foot of Lohagad Fort in Pune district. Siya first tried to say Ketan had slipped and fell to his death. But on investigation, it was found with reasonable proof that Ketan was pushed from a cliff at the fort.
Siya and Chetan had jointly hatched a plot to kill Ketan.
