Hyderabad: Actor Allu Arjun arrived at Chikkadpally police station on Tuesday morning for questioning in connection with the stampede during the screening of ‘Pushpa-2’ here on December 4.
The actor, named as Accused No. 11 in the case, was asked to appear at 11 am. The authorities emphasised that Allu Arjun’s presence was necessary to elicit answers regarding the incident under investigation.
The notice came a day after police commissioner C V Anand released a video showing the sequence of events at the theatre.
According to reports, Allu Arjun met his legal team last night, and there were several discussions about the legal course of action. A group of lawyers, carrying folders and bags, was seen arriving at his Jubilee Hills residence.
A stampede at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad during the screening of ‘Pushpa-2’ had resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman and left her eight-year-old son hospitalised. Following this incident, the city police registered a case against actor Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under Section 105, 118(1) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s family.
On December 13, the actor was arrested by the police from his residence and released from prison a day later after the Telangana high court granted him a four-week interim bail.
Stating that the police had denied permission for the event at Sandhya Theatre, Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy had earlier blamed Allu Arjun for the tragedy in the state Assembly. He also accused the actor of behaving inhumanely, even after the unfortunate death. The CM further alleged that he behaved disrespectfully towards police personnel when they attempted to arrest him.
On December 22, a group attacked the Pushpa actor’s house, demanding justice for the family of the deceased woman, identified as Revathi.
