Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday requested all private English and Odia medium in schools in five cyclone-hit coastal districts to waive the school fee for one month.

Acting on a request of the Odisha Abhibhabhak Mahasangh (OAM), Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethy requested the management of about 5000 private English and Odia medium schools in the affected districts of Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghapur and Kendrapada in this regard.

“We heartily appreciate the Chief Minister and the SRC for the appeal to all private schools,” OAM Chairperson Basudev Bhatt said in a release.

The Chief Minister, in a special package announcement for livelihood support on April 11 had announced the waiver of school fee and school examination fee up to the high school level in all government schools in the affected areas. Besides, he had also announced two extra pairs of school uniforms for students in the extremely affected areas and one extra pair in the severely affected areas to the children up to the elementary school level.
