Rourkela: Quack alert! Read a tweet by Sundargarh Police. In its drive against fake doctors and clinics in the district, police have shut down as many as six clinics in less than a week in different areas of the district for operating without a qualified doctor and technician.

The drive comes at a time when Sundargarh has turned into a COVID-19 hotspot with rising number of positive cases reported every day. The district reported 1018 cases in the last 24 hours.

Cracking down on such clinics, police have sealed such illegal facilities running under Biramitrapur police limits, 2 clinics under Hatibari police limits, two more in Kutra and another in Raiboga area.

According to reports, a quack was running the clinic in Birmitrapur and was in the business for several years.

In Hatibari area while police and tehsil officials sealed Sarna Diagnostic and Maa Homeopathy, they also apprehended two persons belonging to Sundargarh and Nuagaon areas.

It may be mentioned here that on May 10 Kutra police along with tehsil staff sealed a fake clinic operating in Panchara area. It was learnt that a Class 10 pass man from Jharkhand was practicing in the clinic. He was arrested and legal action initiated.

On Tuesday, Kutra police sealed Biswas Medical Store in Kutra main market for a similar offence.

Claiming to be a doctor, the clinic owner, a resident of Kolkata, is accused of providing traditional treatment to people in the area over the last 30 years. He was also allegedly treating patients during the pandemic situation.

A joint team of Kutra police led by IIC Sushant Parida and Tehsildar Rabindra Sethy conducted the raid.
