Ravana Podi: Twin Cities Ready For Light & Sound Spectacle
Bhubaneswar: The stage is set for ‘Ravana Podi’ in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack with five-day Durga Puja festivities drawing to a close with Vijaya Dashami on Tuesday.
The Balijatra Ground with light up in Cuttack as a large effigy of Ravana will go up in flames with fireworks in the background.
In Bhubaneswar, denizens can enjoy the visual treat marking the victory of good over the evil at five places – Baramunda, Jharpara, Naharkanta, Chandaka and Jatni.
The Commissionerate Police have made massive arrangements for smooth conduct of the festival.
Spectators have to maintain a minimum distance of 100 metres from the effigies during firework display.
Oganisers have been asked to use low intensity firecrackers.
Barricades have been put up for safety of the people.
Volunteers deployed to manage the rush.
A fire brigade team kept ready to meet any eventuality.
Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi visited the puja pandals on Monday to review the security arrangements. “We have held discussions with the organisers on entry and exit points and smooth traffic management. They have been asked to shift makeshift stalls from near the Ravan effigies,” he said.
Sarangi said traffic has been diverted and security on some routes tightened. People going to Cuttack will have to take Patia-Barang route, he added.
