Retired Engineer Sentenced To 2-Yr RI In Corruption Case In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur on Saturday convicted a retired junior engineer in a corruption case and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for two years and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. In default of payment of fine, the convict would undergo further rigorous imprisonment for 4 months.

As per the case, the retired junior engineer, Rural Works Section, Digapahandi, R.W. Division, Berhampur in Ganjam district, Trinath Sethi had demanded illegal gratification of Rs 9,000 from a person to prepare the final bill of a road work executed by him in 2006.

On being informed, the Vigilance officials laid a trap and nabbed Sethi while accepting the bribe amount. Following his arrest, Sethi was facing trial in the Vigilance court since then.

BM Pradhan, former Inspector of Vigilance, Berhampur division had investigated the case and Surendra Kumar Panda, special public prosecutor, Vigilance, Berhampur and PK Dora additional special public prosecutor conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
