Rourkela: A Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) employee lost Rs 3.58 lakh to cybercriminals who tricked him with a fake credit card offer.
According to sources, the employee came across a credit card advertisement link on social media on May 7 and clicked on it. The following day, he received a call from an unknown number, asking for his bank details, Aadhaar, and PAN card numbers to process the credit card request. After sharing the information, he was told he would hear back within 24 hours. On May 9, he received a message that Rs 3.58 lakh was debited from his account. Unable to stop the transaction, he filed an FIR with Sector-7 police on May 10.
“We’ve registered a case and are investigating,” said IIC of Sector-7 police station R N Patra, adding that they’ve requested the bank for the complainant’s account statement to aid the investigation.
