Bhubaneswar: The issue pertaining to alleged ostracisation of the family of an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer in Ganjam district over his inter-caste marriage, has been resolved amicably.
Police had booked nine people after Bijay Behera, father of Additional Tehsildar (Aska) Saudagar Behera, filed a complaint on Friday, alleging that members of their Kaibarta community had ostracised his family ever since his son married outside the community in February this year. The resident of Munishpenth near Chhatrapur claimed that he was humiliated and asked to leave while attending a wedding reception feast in the village and his plate of food was snatched away.
He also told police that community elders had earlier pressured him to disown the couple, which he refused to do, leading to the subsequent mistreatment.
Initially discussions between the family and community representatives had met with a dead end.
However, community members sat together again on Saturday afternoon and assured to live peacefully and maintain brotherhood in the village. Community leaders and the complainant came to the police station and assured to live peacefully. They also gave written undertakings,” Chhatrapur police station IIC Sabyasachi Malla told the media.
Following which, Behera requested the police to withdraw his complaint.
