370 Persons Booked In Twin Cities For Violating Rules On Diwali

Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police booked a total of 370 residents in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for violation of the Supreme Court directive on bursting of firecrackers on Diwali.

According to sources, cases have been registered against 140 persons and Rs 1.15 lakh fine was collected from 230 persons for bursting crackers beyond the stipulated time i.e. before 8 pm and after 10 pm. Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said, “According to Section 5 of the Fireworks and Loudspeakers (Regulation) Act, 1958, we have given a
prosecution report to 140 persons. As per the Odisha Urban Police Act, 
we have imposed fine on 230 persons and collected Rs 1.15 lakh. The Commissionerate Police took action against the persons who broke the rules.”

On the occasion of Diwali, the Commissionerate Police Bhubaneswar-Cuttack had promulgated the direction of the Supreme Court of India to display and burst fireworks from 8 pm to 10 pm through specific orders and through the social as well as electronic/print media.
