New Delhi: In a major victory for Vijay’s TVK government, the Supreme Court has stayed the order issued by Madras High Court that had put a ban on slaughtering of cows and calves in Tamil Nadu. The TVK govt had moved the apex court, challenging the previous HC order, reported Hindustan Times.
In its order, the bench stated that the final paragraph of the HC order which had mentioned the restriction needed ‘correction.’ The case was heard by the bench of justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, reported Bar and Bench.
The Tamil Nadu govt, as per the report, argued that while the HC had correctly stated that animal slaughter could take place only at designated slaughterhouses, it had also directed that no cow or calf should be butchered on Bakrid or any other day. The govt stated that these observations appeared contradictory.
“If there is a violation of some order, file a contempt petition,” the bench observed, reported Law Beat.
