Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda experienced severe cold wave conditions on Monday morning, recording 9.8°C which was 6.7 notches below normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Cold wave also persisted in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Angul. The state capital saw the coldest November night in 25 years as the mercury plummeted to 12.9°C, which was 6.1°C below normal. The neighbouring Cuttack recorded 13.2°C, 4.7°C below normal.
However, it was Angul at 10.2°C which saw a major drop of 7.3°C from normal.
Odisha also recorded the season’s coldest night at 5.4°C in G Udayagiri, a hill station in Kandhamal, followed by Semiliguda in Koraput at 6.1°C and Daringbadi and Phulbani, also in Kandhamal, at 7°C and 8°C respectively.
The other places where temperature plummeted below 15°C include Jharsuguda (9.8°C), Rourkela (10°C), Chipilima in Bargarh (10.2°C), Koraput (10.8°C), Kirei in Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Bhawanipatna at 11°C each, Nabarangpur (11.5°C), Sundargarh (11.8°C), Balangir (12.5°C), Mahisapat in Dhenkanal (12.9°C), Ranital in Bhadrak (13°C), Sambalpur (13.4°C), Rayagada (13.6), Sonepur (13.8), Titlagarh in Balangir (14.2°C) and Malkangiri (14.3°C).
Khurda, Nayagarh, Deogarh, Paralakhemundi in Gajapati, Hirakud in Sambalpur, and Chandbali in Balasore recorded 15°C each.
According to the Met office, a cold wave is likely to persist in Khurda, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal and Sundargarh till Tuesday morning, following which the night temperature may rise by 2-3°C across the state.
