New Delhi: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has formed a two-member sub-committee to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for handling ragging complaints within its institutions.
Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das of Bhubaneswar’s Siksha O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University and Dr K Ayyappan of Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering & Technology (Puducherry) have been nominated to the sub-committee.
Besides preparing an SOP, they have also been tasked with —
* Preparing draft and revise/restructure contents of the existing AICTE Anti-Ragging Regulations, 2009
* Designing and developing e-form contents and methodology for monthly data/information collection from institutions, related to ARC, ARS, etc. through AICTE web portal
* Carrying out any additional task as may be assigned by the existing committee.
The AICTE wants to go all out to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging in AICTE-approved technical institutions, for which it framed the All India Council for Technical Education (Prevention and Prohibition of Ragging in Technical Institution, Universities, including Deemed to be Universities imparting technical education) Regulations 2019.
Amendments have subsequently been made to the 2019 Regulations, and now more possible alterations will be looked into.
Dr Neetu Bhagat, deputy director (PGR Cell), intimated that a committee, which was formed to review measures taken by AICTE to prevent and prohibit ragging in its approved institutes, held a meeting on June 13, 2025, where the constitution of a two-member sub-committee was recommended.
