Special Arrangements For Inmates Of Nandankanan Zoo In Bhubaneswar During Winter

Bhubaneswar: With intense cold sweeping across Odisha, special arrangements have been made to provide comfort and protection to the inmates of Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar.

According to reports, the zoo authorities have made different arrangements for the animals taking into consideration their specific requirements.

While room heaters and plywood have been given to the chimpanzees,  blankets have been provided for the Orangutans to give them respite from the biting cold.

Similarly, paddy straws have been stashed inside the enclosure of rock python, while incandescent bulbs have been fitted for the largest poisonous snake King Cobra, and heaters are being provided to keep Iguanas warm.

The temperature conditions of the enclosure are adjusted to ensure that Chimpanzees are not affected by the cold conditions, according to Deputy Director of Nandankanan Zoo Dr Sanjeet Kumar.

“We adjust the temperature conditions of the enclosure to ensure that Chimpanzees are not affected by the cold wave. Special dietary arrangements have also been made for the animals,” said Dr Kumar was quoted by ANI as saying.

The aviary species are given special attention as they are susceptible to harsh weather.

The zoo authorities have put up agro net sheds at the enclosures of the birds, squirrels, and monkeys to save them from cold breeze. All possible steps are being taken to prevent any kind of discomfort that can affect the lives of the animals.
