Bhubaneswar: With return of heatwave conditions, the day temperature in Odisha is likely to rise further by 3-5°C during the next 6-7 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for hot and humid and heatwave for many parts of the state till May 14.
Despite nor-wester rain in some parts of the state, maximum temperature has observed appreciable rise by about 3°C at some places coastal Odisha. The highest maximum temperature of 39.8°C was recorded at Boudh on Thursday.
Scorching heat is expected to grip Odisha despite the likelihood of Kalbaisakhi showers in some areas. Temperatures are expected to touch 41°C in several parts of the state.
The heatwave alert has been issued for multiple districts, with residents advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe. The sweltering conditions are expected to persist, with the mercury likely to rise significantly in the coming days.
The weather agency has warned of intense heat and humidity in 11 districts — Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati on Friday.
Heat wave conditions are also likely to prevail at one or two places of Sambalpur, Jharsuguda,
Balangir, Boudh and Sundargarh during the period.
