Thunderstorm Likely In 12 Odisha Districts In Next 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorm with gusty winds and lightning at one or two places over 12 districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.

Talking to journalists on Wednesday, duty officer at the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Sudarshan Mishra, said a trough line from east Bihar to Gangetic West Bengal at 1.5 km and another trough line at 0.9 km above the mean sea level from interior Odisha to north interior Karnataka has become less marked.  Besides, an upper air trough from cyclonic circulation over east Rajasthan to north Chhattisgarh across north Madhya Pradesh has extended up to 1.5 km above the mean sea level with embedded cyclonic circulation over south-east Uttar Pradesh and its neighbourhood.

Under its influence, thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning at one or two places is most likely to occur over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Rayagada and Gajapati. Also, hailstorm is likely at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal and Cuttack.

Due to the inclement weather, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea over coastal Odisha and north-west Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours till Thursday as strong surface wind speed reaching 25-35 kmph with gusting to 45 kmph will prevail along and off the Odisha coast and north-west Bay of Bengal areas and make the sea condition very rough.
