Bhubaneswar: The Regional Centre of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Sunday issued thunderstorm and lightning warning for seven districts of Odisha.
The alert has been issued for Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bargarh, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Rayagada districts.
The Met centre, in a bulletin, stated that the satellite images of Doppler Weather Radar indicated that thunderstorm along with lightning and heavy rainfall accompanied by dusty winds reaching up to a speed of 50 to 60 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places in these districts.
People at these places have been advised remain alert till 8:30 pm and take shelter in nearby buildings or other safer locations, the bulletin added.
The weatherman has also forecast a rise in temperature from May 10. The day temperature is expected to touch 43 degree Celsius in most parts of western Odisha.
As per a release by the local Met office on Sunday evening, temperature went up to 40 degree Celsius and above at nine places in Odisha with Balangir being the hottest at 43.9 degree Celsius followed by Sonepur (43.8), Jharsuguda (43), Sambalpur (41.9), Talcher (41.3), Hirakud (41.1), Bhawanipatna (41), Malkangiri (40.4) and Angul (40.1).
Barring the twin cities of Cuttack (35.5) and Bhubaneswar (36), temperature fell to 35 degree Celsius and below in the remaining coastal areas.
