Bhubaneswar: As many as 23 districts of Odisha are likely to witness thunderstorm accompanied by hail in the next 24 hours, a bulletin released by the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday afternoon.
The alert has been sounded for Khurda, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Koraput, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balasore, Boudh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal and Angul districts.
The Met bulletin stated that thunderstorm accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph is likely at these places during the period. Similarly, heavy to very heavy rain is expected to occur over one or two places in coastal Odisha.
The Met further warned people in these districts to stay indoors or take shelter in safe locations, if such weather conditions prevail.
Meanwhile, Sonepur recorded the highest day temperature of 42.3 degree Celsius followed by Titlagarh at 40 degree Celsius.
Similarly, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Bhubaneswar recorded 41.2, 41, 40.3, 39.9 and 35.9 degree Celsius respectively.
