Traffic Hit As Goods Train Derails In Odisha’s Damanjodi

Damanjodi: Train traffic between Koraput and Rayagada were partially disrupted after 15 wagons of a goods train at Damanjodi railway station in Korput district on Sunday.

It was loaded with alumina powder belonging to NALCO.

The incident took place at NALCO’s exchange yard at around 4:20 PM when the wagons were being drawn out of the railway siding, East Coast railway (ECoR) sources said.

A relief train from Koraput division has been sent to the spot and senior official present at the spot are supervising the restoration work.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Waltair railway division KD Rao has left Visakhapatnam for Damanjodi. Senior railway officials from Visakhapatnam and Rayagada too have rushed to the spot, the sources further said.

Rao will camp at the site till complete restoration of line and resumption of traffic, said sources.

The derailment with the five wagons blocking the line between Koraput and Rayagada affected movement of at least four trains.

  1. 18107 Koraput-Rourkela Express has been stalled at Koraput station to run after midnight.
  2. 18005 Samaleswari Express towards Jagadalpur waiting at Laxmipur road.
  3. 18448 Hirakhand Express at Koraput. This train will run the diverted Koraput-Araku-Koottavalsa-Vizianagaram route.
  4. 58301 Sambalpur –Koraput passenger short-terminated at Rayagada.

 

One line at Damanodi is likely to be made free from obstruction before midnight. The railways may reschedule some more trains and it is expected to complete the restoration by early morning, the ECoR sources added.
