Triumph Eyes 20 Per Cent Growth In India; To Enter ‘Used Motorcycles’ Segment

New Delhi: British premium motorcycle maker Triumph Motorcycles is hoping to grow its sales by around 15-20 per cent in India.

It is planning to start a pre-owned vehicles programme here.

“We were lower by around 10 per cent (in sales) than the previous year in FY20. This year FY21 we are expecting a growth of 15-20 per cent in our retail sales,” Triumph Motorcycles India Pvt Ltd Business Head Shoeb Farooq told PTI.

Triumph had sold 800 units in 2019-20.

However, the premium motorcycle segment is currently not doing well in India with a 50 per cent drop in sales in recent months. Iconic players like Harley Davidson are also cutting back on operations citing poor sales. Triumph, however, is hopeful to do better than others.

Farooq said, “We all know there is stress in the industry right now. The focus from our side is to continuously give a reason for the customers to come to our showroom and buy our products.”

“Aggressive pricing strategy will be the key to recovery,” he said.

He pointed out that Triumph’s products like Street RRR and Rocket are still on booking after 7 months of launch.

Shedding light on Triumph’s used motorcycle programme ‘Triumph Approved’, he said it will give them a “good entry price point to our brand” and help dealers repurchase motorcycles.
