UP Man, Abducted & Tortured For Ransom, Rescued In Odisha’s Koraput; 2 Arrested
Jeypore: Two persons have been arrested for allegedly abducting and trying to extort Rs 25 ransom from the family of a man, belonging to Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh.
The victim, identified as Abdul Manna, was rescued from an under-construction tourist office building following raids at different places by a team led by Koraput SDPO, who also nabbed Manoj Khosla and Pintu Khora, natives of Nala Chuan and Dumuriput in Koraput respectively, on February 19 for the extortion bid.
According to police sources, Khosla came in contact with prisoner Javed of Jeypore while he was lodged in Koraput jail in connection with a rape case. They stayed in touch once out of jail on bail and later Khosla approached him with a plan to kidnap a relative of fellow prisoner Mujasim, who was then hoodwinked into believing that they would get him released from jail with the help of a good lawyer.
Javed’s sister Sheikh Salina called up Mujasim’s family and asked them to come over for his bail following which the latter sent Abdul to Jeypore. After reaching on February 15, he stayed with Seikh for two days. As planned, Seikh and sister Heena Parvin took Abdul to Koraput on February 17 in a car, which was waylaid by Khosla and Khora. They blindfolded Abdul and took him to the under-construction building, where he was allegedly assaulted and tortured without food and water. They then demanded Rs 25 lakh ransom. They withdrew Rs 30,000 using his ATM card.
“The security guard, the car driver and another woman accused are on the run and will be nabbed soon. The ATM card, mobile phone, SIM cards and vehicle of the accused have been seized. Further investigation is underway,” a police officer said.
