Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said that the cremation of veteran Odia actor Mihir Das will be held with state honours.

The actor had breathed his last earlier in the evening while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack. He was 63.

Naveen said that he was an icon of Odia Cine World, who inspired thousands to build a career in acting. He also conveyed his deep sympathy to his family members.

Some members of the film fraternity and his son Amlan were at the hospital at the time of his death, which has left a void in the film and television industry of Odisha.

In his career spanning over three decades, Das won the Best Actor award from the state government for his performance in Laxmi Protima in 1998 and Pheria Mo Suna Bhauni in 2005. However, it was Pua Mora Bholashankar, which propelled him to stardom.

He also received the Best Comedian award for Mu Tate Love Karuchi in 2007 and Best Supporting Actor award for Prema Adhei Akhyara in 2010. He played the antagonist in 2009 Abhimanyu.
