Visually-Impaired Plus II Students To Get Braille Textbooks From Next Year

Berhampur: Visually-impaired Plus-II students will get specially-designed Braille textbooks from the next academic session.

Social Security and Empowerment Of Persons With Disabilities Minister Ashok Chandra Panda inaugurated a machine to publish the textbooks here on Thursday.

The machine worth of Rs 1.18 crore has been procured from Germany. As many as 16 words can be printed in a second with the help of this machine.

The visually-impaired students will get the Braille textbooks from next academic session, said Panda.

Earlier, Braille textbooks were only available for Class-I to Class X. The college students, who who suffer from retarded eyesight, had to depend on screen readers and tape-recorders.

The Red Cross Braille Press in Berhampur will print textbooks for them with the help of this machine.
