Wanted Chhattisgarh Maoist Escapes From Odisha Police Custody

Nuapada: Police are on the hunt for a most-wanted Maoist after he managed to escape from their custody in Odisha’s Nuapada district on Monday afternoon.

According to reports, police had arrested Manoj Madkami, a cadre Maoist of Bargarh-Balangir-Mahasamund Division, on May 30 this year.

Since he was involved in a series of violence, the state police had announced a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head.

On Monday, police had brought Manoj to produce him in the court of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Court.
While being taken to the court, he suddenly kicked the two policemen and ran away after scaling the boundary wall of the SDJM court.

Following information, the Nuapada police rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the Maoist.

Till reports last came in, there is no trace of the Left-wing ultra.

Police said Manoj has several criminal cases pending against him in police stations in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Meanwhile, taking strong exception to the gross dereliction of duty, the Nuapada SP, later in the day, suspended seven policemen of Nuapada Police station. They are Pankaj Tandi, Pushpalata Sunani, Bholanath Majhi, Pantabai Naik, Harishankar Sabar, Laxman Sabar and Madhusudan Majhi.
