Amritsar: The second batch of Indians who were deported from the US landed on Saturday night in Amritsar.
Among the 119 people on board the American military aircraft were two cousins who faced a double whammy – and could not reunite with their family.
Sandeep Singh alias Sunny and Pradeep Singh were immediately arrested by Punjab Police as they are wanted in a murder case in Punjab’s Patiala.
A case against Sandeep and four others was registered in Patiala district’s Rajpura town in June 2023. During investigation, the name of Pradeep, another accomplice of Sandeep, was added to the FIR.
A team of Patiala police, waiting at Sri Guru Ramdas Airport, took the duo under custody and whisked them away in a police van.
They have been declared proclaimed offenders in the case, and booked under sections 302, 307, 323, 506, 148 and 149 of BNS in the murder case registered on June 26, 2023. However, police hadn’t issued a Lookout Circular against the two.
Of the 119 deportees, 67 are from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, 8 from Gujarat, 3 from Uttar Pradesh, 2 each from Goa, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, and 1 each from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
The first batch of 104 Indian deportees from the US was flown in to Amritsar on February 5.
A third flight is scheduled to land at Amritsar airport on Sunday night.
