(Watch) Child Odissi Dancer Who Impressed Mallika Sarabhai

The fourth episode of BYJU’S Young Genius featured child prodigy Srinika Purohit for her exceptional Odissi dance abilities. Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao joined the episode as a mentor and shared that he got his first income of Rs 300 when he was 15-year-old by teaching dance to a kid.

Following the performance, renowned classical dancer Mallika Sarabhai joined the episode virtually. She hoped that many children get inspired by the 10-year-old, after watching the episode. Srinika was given a one-year BYJU’S subscription and an award celebrating her excellence in the field of Performing Arts, News18 reported.

Srinika is one of the youngest dancers to perform at the India International Dance Festival. She has also performed in countries such as Singapore, Japan and USA. The 10-year-old aspires to become a scientist and an even better dancer.

“My daughter was two-months-old when I started my rehearsals, so she used to be into music for a long time during the day. She understood music when she was very small. When she grew up, she started copying me. She was deeply in love with Odissi music and dance. She used to stop crying while watching Odissi dance videos,” Srinika’s mother told News18.

“She is also making others love Odissi dance. It will be a privilege if, through her, we can take Odissi throughout the world. We can develop more love towards this art form. It is a very precious and rich art form of India,” she added.
