Mumbai: Celebrities have had problems tackling the paparazzi who intrude into their private lives. Social media has also been a menace often, criticising and ridiculing celebrities without realising the effect it could have.
Sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan, the wife of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, recently had one such unpleasant experience and has expressed her resentment and anger.
Sanjana, who takes her son to watch some of Bumrah’s matches, was on Sunday seen at the Wankhede Stadium with one-and-a-half-year old Angad during Mumbai Indians’ IPL game against Lucknow Super Giants.
As the cameras panned on Sanjana and Angad after Bumrah bagged 4/22 to set up Mumbai’s 54-run victory, the little one didn’t seem too enthused as his mother tried to bring to his attention his dad’s heroics.
Photographs of the Bumrah family were widely shared on social media platforms, but a section of netizens made some insensitive comments on the kid.
Sanjana took to her Instagram account to address the trollers, saying that her son is not a topic of entertainment.
“Our son is NOT a topic for your entertainment. Jasprit and I do everything in our power to keep Angad away from social media because the internet is a despicable, vile place to be and I completely understand the implications of bringing a child to a cricket stadium filled with cameras, but please understand that Angad and I were there to support Jasprit and nothing else,” Sanjana wrote on her Instagram story.
“He is one and a half years old. Throwing around words like trauma and depression in reference to a baby says so much about who we’re becoming as a community and it’s honestly really sad. You know nothing about our son, nothing about our lives and I request you to keep your opinions online true to that,” Sanjana added.
Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma is another celebrity couple who have expressed their desire to keep their children Vamika and Akaay away from media spotlight, and requested media and fans to respect their wishes.
