6 Police Officials Arrested On Murder Charges; Know More About The Case
Chennai: The Crime Branch-Crime Investigative Department (CB-CID) of Chennai Police has arrested six police officials on murder charges in the custodial death case of Vignesh.
The policepersons, arrested on the basis of the deceased’s autopsy report, were booked under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of IPC and the SC/ST Atrocities Act, India Today reported.
The post-mortem report confirmed that the 25-year-old Vignesh suffered multiple injuries and fractures on his body.
Vignesh was arrested on April 18 along with another person named Suresh following a vehicle check. Ganja and liquor bottles were allegedly found in an autorickshaw they were travelling in, and Vignesh couldn’t give proper answers to questions posed by police.
They were taken to the Secretariat Colony police station, but Vignesh died the day after. A sub-inspector, a constable and a member of the Home Guards were suspended and investigation was initiated on suspicious death.
The case was later transferred to CB-CID by Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin after allegations were raised against police officials and their attempts to cover up the alleged custodial death.
