Odisha Govt To Tighten Rules For 25% Reservation For Poor Students In Private Schools
Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the private schools’ apathy towards admission of poor students in gross violation of the Right To Education (RTE) Act, the Odisha government is all set to take a decision on the issue soon.
The issue was discussed at a high-level meeting presided by School and Mass Education minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Monday afternoon. It was decided that for the strict implementation of the RTE Act, there will be no selection of students at the school level from now on.
The School and Mass Education Department will monitor the online admission of students to ensure 25% reservation for the economically weak and socially disadvantaged students in the private schools for free education.
The decision was taken hours after the members of the Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangh led by the president Basudeb Bhatt began a fast unto death demanding standard operating procedure (SOP) for online admission of poor students in 25% seats in private schools and strict implementation of the report of the Fee Regulatory Committee.
