New Delhi: No sooner had WhatsApp tweeted a video from its official handle on Saturday than Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar pointed out an error in the India map and asked the Meta-owned messaging app to rectify the mistake immediately.
Chandrasekhar, the minister of state for Electronics & Technology, didn’t stop there. In a clear warning to all platforms, the minister urged them to use correct maps if they want to do business in India.
WhatsApp’s video, informing users about the 24-hour New Year’s Eve live stream, shows the globe with a distorted map of India, with respect to Jammu and Kashmir.
“Dear @WhatsApp – Rqst that u pls fix the India map error asap. All platforms that do business in India and/or want to continue to do business in India, must use correct maps,” Chandrasekhar tweeted.

A few days ago, the minister had cautioned Zoom CEO Eric Yuan over a similar misrepresentation.
In the past, Twitter and other organisations – including World Health Organisation (WHO) — has been guilty of showing distorted India map.
