Meeting With Sports Minister: Wrestlers Demand A Woman Federation Chief
New Delhi: The wrestlers met Anurag Thakur at his residence on Wednesday following his late-night invitation on Twitter.
Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, who held talks with Thakur, made five big demands in line with their protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The protesting wrestlers want a woman to be appointed WFI chief, reported NDTV.
Among their other demands are free and fair WFI elections, and that Brij Bhushan or any of his family members can’t part of the national federation.
Reiterating their long-standing demand of Brij Bhushan’s arrest, the wrestlers also want a police case against them scrapped. The case was filed against the wrestlers over their protest on May 28, when India’s new Parliament building was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The wrestlers had earlier met Union Home Minister Amit Shah over their demand for action against Brij Bhushan, who has been accused of sexual harassment by seven female wrestlers including a minor.
