New Delhi: Pakistan’s propaganda machinery has been in overdrive since India successfully carried out Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror camps in the neighbouring country on May 6-7.

A widespread disinformation campaign has been unleashed in an attempt to regain control of the narrative through digital manipulation and unverified claims, particularly by pro-Pakistan social media accounts. And this psychological warfare has been actively debunked by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in the last few weeks.

On Friday, its fact check unit busted several such false claims about supposed attack by the Pakistan Army on India.

One among them is a video from a video game, which has been online for over 3 years. The gaming video was shared to show a heavy MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket Systems) barrage on India. “It has no connection to the current India–Pakistan situation,” the PIB Fact Check said.

It also dismissed a social media post, claiming that a Sukhoi Su-30MKI was shot down in Muzaffarabad and  the Indian Pilot captured alive. “This Sukhoi SU-30MKI of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed at Undre Vasti of Kulwadi village near Pune-Ahamad Nagar highway, Maharashtra on October 14, 2014.”

These apart, visuals from Dhaka (February 2025) was shared on social media, claiming a Pakistani attack on Jammu.

In response to a surge of misinformation and fake narratives, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has launched the ‘India Fights Propaganda’ campaign. A total of seven videos were fact-checked between 10 pm on May 8 and 6.30 am of Friday.
